Vincent Ferrané – Célestial

In his new photo book Célestial, French photographer Vincent Ferrané explores emotional functioning through a series that ventures into visual processing. The project is based on warm-up poses from contortion practices. The graphic treatment of the contorted body within a mundane interior takes on a higher dimension through the association of multiple images captured during the shoot – images that are slightly different but similar enough to allow axes of symmetry to align them, creating a new image altogether.

The result oscillates between hypnotic patterns, Rorschach tests, and a visual game where the center and periphery of the image seem intimately connected. As in the artist’s previous book with Art Paper Editions (Inner, 2022), a female figure takes centre stage. Here, the intimate space serves as a backdrop for a choreography organised into a rhythmic pattern.

This figure is Céleste, a professional dancer portrayed as a supernatural and transformative subject. A kaleidoscopic exploration made possible by the book object.

64 pages, 22 x 32.5 cm, softcover, Art Paper Editions (Ghent).
