Veit Stauffer – Feifi Zeig

Feifi Zeig is a selection of photographs culled from the copious archives of Zürich record dealer, concert promoter and music expert Veit Stauffer (1959–2024). These archives go all the way back to the late 1970s, when Stauffer was a student at the F+F School of Art & Design in Zürich. His senior project there, consisting of 17 large photo and text panels, was displayed in the exhibition halls of the Züspa fairground in December 1977 and were highlighted in a contemporary review by Bice Curiger in the Swiss daily Tages-Anzeiger.

Graphic designer Adrian Elsener began sifting through Stauffer’s archive in 2021, seeking to strike a balance between public and private subjects in his picks of the best pics among them. Some are captioned here; others, including stills of street performances, are self-explanatory. One of the main sections of the book features previously unpublished family photos from Veit’s childhood, variously staged as New Year’s cards by his father, the Swiss artist Serge Stauffer. Another is an abridged reprint, with abundant bonus material, of Stationsvorstand, an artist’s book that Stauffer self-published in a very limited edition in 2000. These stunning photos, rounded out by poignant written sketches from his teenage diary, make this book a highly entertaining experience.
