The Supreme Deluxe Essential Monster Chetwynd Handbook

British artist Monster Chetwynd's works feature titles such as The Green Room & Science Lab, The Panther Ejaculates, Upright Uptight, Upside Down , JABBA, I'M BACK! and cocaine and caviar. The brightly coloured, imaginative costumes and props are all handmade, the actors in the performances are the artist herself, friends and relatives. There are elements of folk theatre and street spectacle in their performances, numerous scientific, pop cultural and literary references. It became increasingly important to Monster Chetwynd to emphasise the humorous and informal aspect, the improvised and unconventional. Actually, this type of creating refuses to be archived. "My performances are exciting live moments that are difficult to document," says Chetwynd. And yet the book tries just that. However, when looking at the printed exhibition, the energy of the viewer increases in a way that is the same as if he had attended the spectacle live.

Bursting with photographic documentation and source material, the book impressively shows the creative period between 2007 and 2018. The photo series are framed by the richly illustrated, mostly English-language fanzines of the individual performances, which also contain all references to the sources of inspiration and the cast lists.

648 pages, 27.4 x 19.4cm, softcover, Edition Patrick Frey (Zurich).
