Disruptia is a word that Frances and I created to describe the disruption of the societal system that decides when women are human beings or sexual objects.

Throughout the process of creating this body of work, I became interested in the tension between form and content, specifically in depicting the female body. I wanted to focus on the tension that exists in our society with how we view women by playing into the objectification, abstracting the body to create a new depiction of the female form. I began taking photographs that reflected both the humanity within the female subject and the composition of shapes, tones and form of the body. 

In this collaboration between two artists and friends, we seek to dismantle the voyeuristic dynamic between photographer and subject, collaborating instead as equals. —Julie Benatar
